Force Teams Showing Strong in State Cup Tournaments

Congratulations to our Force ‘08 Girls, Force ‘07 Boys, and Force ‘06 Girls who all advanced into the playoff rounds of State Cup Tournaments this past weekend.

The Force ‘08 Girls, coached by Scott Willsie and assisted by Derek Henry, advanced to the Championship match in the Puget Sound Premier League’s Washington Cup Tournament over the weekend.

The Force ‘08 Girls defeated teams from Seattle Celtic FC, South Kitsap United, North Kitsap Eclipse, and Emerald City FC by a margin of 16 goals scored to only 1 goal conceded on their way to the final match.

In the Finals, they faced a tough team from South Kitsap United. Unfortunately, the game didn’t start out how they had planned, giving up an early goal in the contest. They then had to play catch-up most of the rest of the game, but battled back hard and were able to tie things up twice in the match. In the end, they found themselves on the losing side by a final score of 4-2.

These girls have big dreams, and it’s obvious by their commitment to excellence. Playing in a state championship this weekend is only the start for these players. You will not find a harder working group, they do everything asked of them, and demand more. Win or lose, learning the game and playing at an elite level is an agreement between the players. The parent group is also one of the best I’ve seen, and they too believe in the potential of these kids. Just an amazing group! I’m proud and honored to be their coach.

It was a tremendous effort, and they left everything they had out on the field. The Force ‘08 Girls are currently ranked 10th in the State of Washington.

The Force ‘07 Boys advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Puget Sound Premier League’s Washington Cup Tournament.

The Force ‘07 Boys, coached by Tony Wentworth, also competed in the Puget Sound Premier League’s Washington Cup Tournament, winning 3 straight during the group stage and defeating teams from Highline Premier FC, Titans FC, and Emerald City FC. They outscored their opponents by a margin of 13 goals scored to just 5 conceded.

On Friday, April 26th they faced a strong team from Kent City FC in the Quarterfinals at Starfire Sports. It was a tough battle that ended with Kent City coming out on top 6 to nil.

My boys played hard tonight, but our opponent was just stronger and simply outplayed us. It was still a great year for these young guys, and we’ll use the experience to motivate us to keep improving next year.

The Force ‘06 Girls advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Washington Youth Soccer President’s Cup.

On Thursday night, April 25th, the Force ‘06 Girls played a mid-week tiebreaker match vs. Snohomish United to determine which team would advance to the Quarterfinals of the Washington Youth Soccer President’s Cup Tournament. Snohomish United scored first off of a great uncontested shot from outside the ‘18. But the Force ‘06 Girls battled back to win 3-2 over Snohomish United with 2 goals by forward Jaylyn Zuetenhorst, and a PK goal by midfielder Maleah Kirk.

I’m so happy for these girls. They have worked really hard all season, and to see it pay off with a win over Snohomish and a chance to advance in the State Cup tournament is very rewarding. These girls are true warriors, and it showed with how they battled back after going down a goal early on. It was fun to watch them elevate their intensity in the second half with a relentless attack.

The Force ‘06 Girls faced another tough contest just two days later when they traveled all the way to Spokane on Saturday, April 27th for a rematch with the Spokane Sounders and chance to advance to the Semi-Finals. The Force ‘06 Girls had defeated this Spokane Sounders team 3-2 in their first match of the Group Stage, so there was certainly some drama coming into the rematch.

This Quarterfinal game was tied 0-0 at halftime after the Force girls were able to withstand a PK opportunity awarded to Spokane from a hand ball called inside the penalty area. But late in the second half, the Spokane Sounders team was able to finally put one in off of a fortunate bounce from a corner kick opportunity. This was the lone goal scored in the contest, and proved to be enough in the end to send the Sounders team through to the Semifinals.

It was a good game today between two very evenly matched teams. We had a few scoring chances, but their GK made some really nice plays, as did ours. The girls really battled hard all game. And although it would have been nice to come out with a win, I have no complaints about how the girls played today. This is really just the start of something much bigger for this team. It’s probably the best group I’ve coached in 14 years. There is no limit to how far they can go together.

The Force ‘02 Girls are currently tied for first in their group competing in the Washington Youth Soccer President’s Cup Tournament.

So far, the Force ‘02 Girls, coached by Kelly Huestis and Tony Doll, have played two matches in the Group Stage with a 2-2 tie against a tough Rush Select G02 Nero team, and a 6-3 win over RSA Elite. Next up, they face a Whatcom Rangers team up in Bellingham for their final contest in the Group Stage. A win over Whatcom would ensure the Force ‘02 Girls a spot in the Semifinals.

Go Force!
